About

The Whole Story

KU Hillel is now located at 722 New Hampshire in the Hobbs Taylor Building, the newest building in downtown Lawrence. We will be occupying about 3000 square feet of brand new office and program space on the first floor of this beautiful structure. For those of you familiar with Lawrence, we share a parking lot with Borders and are directly across the street from the Bottleneck.

The new facility will be a huge upgrade for KU Hillel and will significantly enhance our ability to engage students and meet our mission. We are now in the heart of the coffee shops, bars, and restaurants of downtown Lawrence where the students spend a great deal of time. The space will also better match the exciting and dymnamic nature of Jewish life at KU.

After 26 years, KU Hillel has sold our house at 940 Mississippi. For years, it served us well. From student residences, to bbq’s, to offices, to Shabbat dinners, the house played an important role in Jewish life at KU for many years.

However, eventually we outgrew it. Five years ago, we did a needs assessment and identified that the house was inadequate for a number of reasons: size, location, and image it portrayed to name just a few. With all of our growth over the last five years, one can imagine how much more pressing the need to move became.

Still, the house served us wonderfully for many years and hold a lot of memories for students and alumni.
